I have been building brands in filmed entertainment, media, publishing, consumer products, video and mobile games and toys for years.


 

Nancy Cushing-Jones brings to ncj publishing services her many years of experience in managing a wide spectrum of publishing-related services. These range from content and brand development to providing freelance editorial work on select properties. 

She is an expert in translating story concepts from one medium to another. As Division President for 23 years at Universal Studios, she managed global brand franchises based on studio properties. A recognized expert in all forms of print and digital publishing across all genres and age groups both domestically and internationally, she is acknowledged as one of the earliest creators of the "tie-in" publishing business, transforming it from a marketing-only function to a financially significant business. Nancy was also in the forefront of creating a new business for the development and licensing of videogame rights to filmed entertainment properties–now a multi-billion-dollar industry. She had direct responsibility for all aspects of her division’s business from the creation of each new print and interactive program through implementation of each program at retail. Nancy is an executive with a proven track record of leadership who personally generated 25% of the total revenue generated by the Consumer Products Group at retail on licensing revenue deals and fostered creative solutions to corporate and brand product development across multiple divisions and with third parties.

Nancy became the first female division president in the history of the Studio. She is responsible for creating and selling her first New York Times best-selling book in 1982 and has continued to earn this distinction for both fiction and non-fiction books for children and adults for a wide spectrum of creative properties. Nancy was also the Executive Vice President of the Universal Studios Consumer Products Group, where she had a wide range of responsibilities including acting as the representative for this Group with all the key film and television production companies, including Imagine Entertainment and Amblin/Dreamworks, producers, directors and performers on the various filmed entertainment projects produced and distributed by the Studio. In this capacity she often traveled with film production companies shooting on locations such as mainland China, Australia, Slovakia and Mexico. As a key leader of first the Seagram/Universal and then the Vivendi/Universal cross-business strategic management team, she helped formulate and implement from the earliest stage broad branding and merchandising plans for key studio “event” properties that involved all the relevant studio divisions.

After leaving Universal, Nancy co-founded and ran with her two partners two start-up companies. Broadthink has operated for nineteen years as a consulting company that delivers a broad spectrum of branding, business development, marketing and strategy services to a wide range of clients, including Penguin Random, Scholastic, Dean Koontz and John Lithgow. Broadthink has run companies, started new businesses, consulted with Fortune 500, non-profit, start-up, and mid-sized companies and organizations. BroadLit is an independent romance publishing company that combines the popular genre of romance with the emerging world of new media technology and delivers to today's women through its multi-media channels. Nancy is also the President, Publishing, Media & Branding of the Creative Projects Group, an incubator, production and services company in the entertainment, media, sports and technology fields. It is most active in film, television, theatre, and digital media. Because each venture is unique, a carefully tailored team of professionals and suite of services is assembled for each project. Our goal is to support individual and other stakeholders as well as the ultimate creative vision and goals of each project. CPG’s services range from corporate consulting, including designing business structures and strategies, both traditional and online, to assisting with the branding, marketing, communications, publishing, licensing and merchandising of products and services. We design, program and produce live events including professional/academic workshops and symposia, and film festivals, and serve as media Production Consultants. 

Nancy has served on a number of professional panels, including Frankfurt Book Convention International Rights Directors’ Meetings, the Latin American Training Center, and the Rio Film Festival. She is a former member of the Aspen Film Institute Advisory Board and is currently an active member of the Human Rights Watch Los Angeles Committee for over 20 years. She helped launch and ran for several years the Women's Rights Committee for the L.A. Committee and serves on HRW's Executive, Governance, and Film Club Committees. She is also an active contributor to the American Friends Service Committee and the Ploughshares Foundation.

Cindy Spotts is a visual storyteller with a distinguished career as a Creative Director who has been developing brands and products for the world’s most beloved entertainment and media brands. Highly experienced in all aspects of design and production, Cindy has developed the strategic vision, guided creation and the design of products ranging from fashion to publishing, which has helped heritage brands including PBS, Bravo, DreamWorks, Hasbro, NBC Universal and The Walt Disney Company tell their stories to billions of people around the world.

 When not working, Cindy spends her time photographing and exploring and observing different cultures and their creative expressions around Los Angeles and the world. She synthesizes her findings and shares them in trend reports and blog posts in hopes of inspiring and informing her clients. Cindy also has a deep love of menu planning and farm-to-table cooking. Nothing brings her more pleasure than to share the experience of a meal with her friends and family.
